Here we are again...another month milestone!!
Dear Sweet Owen. You are 9 months old today. This past month has been one of the most fun because of how much growing and changing you have done RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES!!! Don't get me wrong. Each and every month with you has been wonderful, but it seems that the more you grow, the more fun you become!!
We went to see Dr. Dalton this morning and we finally have accurate stats this month! At 6 months (your last accurate weigh-in), you weighed 20lbs 9oz, and this morning, you weighed 24lbs 3oz. Your height is 30.5 inches and your head circumference is 48 centimeters. Yikes!! I just realized that last month your head size was approximately 48.5 centimeters!! Either your head is shrinking or that last haircut got rid of more hair than I thought! Oh well.
You are in the 97th percentile in height and head size and in the 95th percentile in weight.
You are wearing a size 4 diaper and 12 month clothes. Mommy has not started packing up any of the 6-9 month clothing yet with hopes that you can still wear some of our favorites! You always look adorable in anything we put you in!
You are drinking about 25 ounces of formula a day. You start the day with a big 8oz bottle and then your snacks and other meals consist of all sorts of things. You eat "2nd foods" and "3rd foods" as well as table food and finger foods. About half the time, your baby food is mixed with rice cereal or oatmeal cereal and the other half of the time, you eat it right out of the container. We haven't let you try feeding yourself yet, but we know that day is coming so we will begin experimenting with that as you get a little older. Some of the (baby bite-sized) finger foods you have tried and enjoyed are green beans, bread, Ritz crackers, graham crackers, donuts, broccoli, bananas, carrots, whole wheat pasta, french fries, and cheese. You have also tasted scrambled eggs and peanut butter once or twice, but we found out today to steer clear of those for a few more months. Mommy is glad that they haven't been a part of your daily food intake up to this point. You have been introduced to yogurt this week and YOU LOVE IT!! We got a 4-pack of strawberry and 4-pack of banana to get you started but will be trying other flavors very soon. We have heard of a picky stage that comes up as you get older, but so far, you seem to like everything when it comes to food. You like various juices, including a mango pineapple carrot juice that we just bought this week. From time to time, especially when it is hot or after we have been outside, you even enjoy drinking plain water!! We hear that many babies won't drink water, but you seem to like it.
When you turned 8 months old, you had only 2 teeth on the bottom. Today, YOU HAVE 7 TEETH!! Can you believe it??!!?? You had 4 come in on top within just a few days of each other and then just yesterday, we found a third tooth popping through on the bottom! You had mild discomfort for about 2 days when the top ones were coming in, but nothing a little baby Tylenol couldn't fix. We gave it to you right before bed those 2 nights and then you were fine.
You sleep between 10 and 12 hours a night!! Once you are up in the morning, you have a bottle and play a little. Then, believe it or not, you go down for your first nap within an hour or so. That nap is usually 2-3 hours. Other than that, you nap two other times during the day - once in the afternoon and then once in the early evening hours. We put you to bed anywhere between 8:30 and 9:30, depending on what is going on that night and how long your evening nap lasts. You love your sleep and seem to sleep VERY well...just like Mommy! Last month, you liked to peek at us over your bumper when we came to get you after waking, but now you greet us standing up, holding on to the slats of your crib, and looking OVER the top. You are getting to be such a big boy! As always, you are irresistibly cute!
The sounds and motions you like the best are clicking your tongue, laughing, clapping your hands, hitting a table or other flat surface with your hands, banging toys against each other and against the floor, saying strings of word-like sounds like "mamamama" and "dadadada", singing sounds that resemble high-pitched "lalala"s, and so on. You like to sneeze because every single time you do, you smile. You like to be sung to and you like to be read to, too! You enjoy watching Praise Baby DVDs from time to time and enjoy listening to music while going to sleep and in the car. There are so many things that capture your attention and you always seem to be figuring things out. You are going to be such a smart boy!! ;)
You sit very easily now and you crawl as if you have been doing it your whole life! You crawl everywhere you want to go and LOVE pulling/standing up next to the couch, by the back door, against Mommy or Daddy's legs, in your crib, in your Pack-n-Play, and while in someone's lap. It won't be long before you are walking and running all over the place! You are a very busy little boy during playtime. Very very busy! You enjoy all your toys about the same. Furry/soft toys, musical toys, toys that talk to you, smaller handheld toys, rattles, balls, large "sit in" interactive toys, etc. You interact with all of them in various ways, but no matter what, you seem to have a lot of fun! You like books, but mostly you like to chew on the corners of them! Mommy reads to you when you act like you want to be still for a few minutes, but sometimes we just like to look at the pictures and talk about what's going on in the story. One day, you will learn what it means to summarize! That is what we do when you get squirmy!! No matter how we do it, story time is lots of fun for both of us. You continue to be VERY observant and love looking at everything! You are drawn to sounds and movement and you enjoy being around lots of people including Mommy and Daddy's friends as well as all our family members.
Let's see...what else? You recently started splashing in the bathtub. That should make for some fun, wet evenings! :)
You move very very very very very very very very quickly when it comes to getting your diaper changed! In the time it takes Mommy or Daddy to get the velcro unfastened, you are turned completely over and in the crawl position...Yes, on top of your changing table. Mommy would have to say that this is the BIGGEST challenge these days! It is such a difficult but necessary task, so we have to figure something out soon! Putting on clothes is almost as painstaking, but not quite as bad!
You had your 4th haircut this month, but Mommy isn't sure of the exact date. Mommy cut it and took off a lot of the length since it has been so very hot this summer!
You LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE to be outside. You like to swing in your Little Tikes swing out back. You like to take walks and watch the cars go by. You like to sit in grass, but now that you are a confident crawler, you may not sit at all anymore! We should go to the park to find out!
This month, you have started screaming when it comes to sitting in your high chair, your car seat, and your crib. Of course this only happens every other time or so and most of those times, you calm down as soon as you are seated. We don't know what it is (besides you being frustrated for not getting your way), but you arch your back and fight tooth and nail with us. As the month has gone on, you do it less and less, but we still have to assure you that everything is fine! Sweet little stubborn boy! Oh how we love you!!
You are a big hit wherever we go, but what makes us the most happy is how well you act! You are such a content baby and we love how a few toys, a container or two of baby food, and some attention from the people you are with keep you that way!
This month, you got to see your great-grandparents that live several hours away from Lubbock. We went to Carlsbad, NM last weekend and you got to see Great Grandma Darlene for the second time and you finally got to meet Great Grandpa Bob! They think you are pretty special and loved spending the day with you! One of the pictures down below is a 4-generation picture of you and Daddy with Grandpa and Great Grandpa Bob!
Well, Mommy better wrap it up. I could go on and on about how much you have changed this month, but these are some of the major highlights! You are such a sweet addition to our family and we love and cherish you more than you could ever know. We are blessed beyond measure and thankful beyond words! God blessed us immensely when He gave you to us 9 terrific months ago. We love you, Little Man!
Love you much, Mommy and Daddy
