Ready for football season!

Owen's first football season is just around the corner so we purchased some football-appropriate gear for his "fan" debut!! We are very much looking forward to taking him to several Coronado High School football games here in Lubbock as well as a couple of OHS football games in Odessa (the city where I grew up)! Austin is part of the Coronado High Band support staff and Owen's Uncle Kyle (Austin's brother) runs the drumline at CHS. At the Coronado games, we have the opportunity to stand down on the track in front of the band and watch the game "front and center." Of course it will be different this year chasing Owen all over the place. There may not be much "standing" at all! Owen is already scooting "to and fro" so in another month, we can pretty much count on him crawling around and squirming his way out of our arms over and over and over again! Don't worry about me though. I will be wearing my tennis shoes to each and every game. He thinks he can't be caught. Watch me. :) When it comes to this football gear I spoke of, I have had quite a DIFFICULT time finding red/white, red/gold, or just plain red clothing! We found a few really neat outfits (pictured below) as well as a long-sleeved red thermal onesie that Owen can wear to CHS and OHS games alike since the main color for both teams is red. We have a friend that does screen printing so we are going to ask if she can order a few red onesies for us. If so, we are going to have them screen printed with team names, logos, mascots, etc. Our fingers are crossed! Are any of you anxiously awaiting kickoff too? :) Carianne

8 Months

***UPDATE*** As of July 25(ish) Owen is sitting up all by himself! Dearest Owen, You turned 8 months old on Tuesday! I have said it before, but I will say it again: You sure know how to make time fly! Just like last month, this is not a check-up month. We don’t have exact stats as far as your weight, height, and head size go, but we will have rough estimates once you wake up from your morning nap! Weight: roughly 24 pounds (being held by Mommy on the digital bathroom scale) Height: roughly 28 inches (which shows no growth since last month...I blame this possible inaccuracy on his squirmy nature and the fact that he didn't like us holding him still for measurement purposes.) Head circumference: 48 1/2 centimeters To be honest, not a lot has changed since your 7 month post. Of course a few things in your personality and development have changed, but several other details have remained the same. For instance, you are still wearing size 3 diapers during the day and size 6-9 month clothing with occasional 9 month and 12 month outfits sprinkled in. This week, you seem to have outgrown all your 6-9 month footed jammies, so Mommy and Daddy are on a mission to find you some 12-month footed jammies for extra leg room! You are drinking formula every day, but it now varies as to how much. You get a full bottle first thing in the morning and then throughout the day, you get a varied assortment of baby food, baby food mixed with rice or oatmeal cereal, formula, and/or juice. It usually depends on your mood, how long it has been since your last feeding, whether or not we are going out-and-about, or if it is time for a nap. You are still NOT picky when it comes to your food, although you do like to swat your bottle away from time to time! In order for you to continue to get enough formula each day, we decided to give you your bottle first...and THEN all the flavorful yummy foods you enjoy so much. You still eat mostly "2nd foods" but just yesterday, Mommy grabbed a few "3rd foods" for you to try. We are also letting you try some other foods cut into small pieces or in small amounts: peanut butter, french fries, green beans, a small bit of chocolate cake, bread, ice cream, etc. You make strange faces, but it seems to be a texture thing and not an I-don't-like-it thing. You still have just the 2 teeth on the bottom, but we think you have a couple more coming down from the top!! Of course, Little Darling, if you would let us look in your mouth or feel your gums, that would help us know for sure! Are you already a little stubborn? Perhaps just a little!!! The amount of time you sleep at night has increased somewhat. You sleep AT LEAST 9 hours and yesterday you slept 12...so I guess it is safe to say that you like your sleep! Because you don't wake up in the night, we have decided to let you wear a size 4 diaper at night for extra absorbency. You continue to nap a few times a day…a long nap in the morning, another long nap in the evening, and a few other shorter naps during the day. Of course, just like everything else, that varies from time to time!! The last couple of weeks, when we come into your room after you have woken up, you lay on your belly, pull down on the bumper in your crib, and peek at us through the slats on your crib. (See the last picture of this post!) You are extremely irresistible! You have SOOO many expressions and sounds! You put your lips together and blow, making a funny noise that you love (and so do we). You are making lots of repetitive voice sounds too, but none really resembling "mama" or "dada"...YET!! "Bababababa" is one of your most recent strings of babbling and it is adorable to listen to! It will be so much fun when we can talk to each other! So. Much. Fun. You are even more fascinated with sounds, movement, voices, mirrors, lights, textures, repetition, and moving your arms and legs (constantly) than you were last month. You are VERY observant! You have discovered Mommy's eyelids, nostrils, and a freckle halfway up her right arm. Your fine motor skills are coming along perfectly! Playtime is sprinkled throughout each day and we love getting on the floor or taking you outside to play! You giggle at, chew on, bang together, and grab at all your toys. You are such a fun little fellow to play with. You like sitting up unsupported to play, but you also like to roll and scoot wherever you want to go. You are even able to get into the crawl stance, but you rock a little back and forth and then fall back onto your belly. You are able to sit up by yourself MOSTLY, but we still see you leaning on one arm or the other so we aren't sure if we can count it as "sitting up independently" yet. In just 4 short months, we will be celebrating one year of your life. One year since you came into our world. One year since you made us parents. One year since you changed our lives for the better. One year since you blessed us abundantly. In the meantime, we will continue to love and cherish these "baby days." They are moving WAAAAAYYYY too quickly! Love you, Little Man! Mommy and Daddy

Photo Shoot

On July 12, when Owen was roughly 7 months and 3 weeks old, we loaded him up in the car with a couple of outfits in tow and headed to the JCPenney Portrait Studio. To my knowledge, I have never had pictures made there. If my memory serves me correctly, my brothers and I grew up going to the Sears Portrait Studio for all of our (mom's) picture needs! Anyway, we were brought to JCP by a pretty good coupon deal I received in the mail. After all was said and done, we couldn't have been more pleased! Owen was such a delightful little "subject" while in the spotlight! He did most of his own posing, but for the shots when he wasn't naturally irresistible, he sat how we wanted him to sit, he smiled when we told him to smile (added with lots of silly sounds), and despite not having a good afternoon nap that day, he did not fuss one bit or get into one of his "I-am-so-tired-I-can-hardly-stand-it-anymore" cranky fits. He was pure joy. Let me correct myself: He IS pure joy. Taking 30 pictures only took about 15-20 minutes or so and then we were off to the other room for the torturous process of choosing our favorites!! I know what you are thinking!! How ever do we choose from all these adorable poses??? It was tough and a bit time-consuming, but we did it. We also purchased a CD with all 30 of the pictures in case we want to print more in the future. What a great investment in our opinion. Thanks for stopping by, Carianne

Smiles are hard to come by...

Apparently, Owen likes to make faces similar to these as soon as the camera comes out. We do have some pictures of smiles, but this is what our camera seems to be filled with these days. What a cutie.
